The role of the Emergency Management Office is to ensure the safety and security of the residents of The Municipality of Yarmouth and Yarmouth Town, their property and environment, by providing for a prompt and coordinated response to an emergency.
An emergency can have many consequences. The impact may be very localized, affecting a single person or a small group of people. These would be handled by the appropriate emergency services organizations. The impact may be broader, affecting part of a community, several communities, an entire municipal unit, the entire province, or even several provinces. It is these emergencies that require the activation of the Emergency Management Office.
The work of the Emergency Management Office is intended to mitigate the affects of emergencies of any size or type. This is accomplished by pre-planning before an emergency occurs, coordinating the provision of the Municipal and Town resources when an emergency occurs, and by assisting with analysis and evaluation after an emergency.
