 Field Supervisor

Public Works Department

 

Specific duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Public Works:

-        Provides leadership and guidance in regard to day-to-day operations in the Public Works department
-        Assists the Director in developing work schedules to maximize the productivity of employees
-        Monitors and documents resources used to fulfill maintenance requirements on existing infrastructure
-        Will be required to obtain and maintain wastewater collections training and certification
-        Provides maintenance assistance to Wastewater Treatment Plant operator
-        Responds to urgent calls in adverse and variable weather conditions
-        Acts as supervisor in the absence of the Director
-        Participates in the development, documentation and implementation of maintenance, safety and
         operations procedures and improvements
-        Reports to the Director on operational and/or facility deficiencies in a timely manner
-        Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director

Qualifications

-        High school diploma or equivalent
-        Hold a trade relevant to the work environment or experience/training in wastewater collections/treatment
-        Good communications skills and ability to deal with public in a professional manner
-        Familiarity with computers
-        Have and maintain valid NS Driver’s license
-        Show initiative and able to work with limited supervision
-        Experience supervising employees an asset
-        Ability and willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
-        Ability to troubleshoot problems with mechanical and electrical systems
-        Flexibility with work hours, availability to be on-call
-        Good time management skills and ability to prioritize workload
-        Be a team player and have a strong work ethic
-        Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment
-        Willing to take other training as required
-        Class 3 driver’s licence an asset

Working conditions

-        Working outdoors, exposed to the elements (snow, rain, cold and hot temperatures, etc.)
-        Will be required to go into confined spaces and to heights
-        Physically demanding activities
-        Driving large vehicles and/or combination of equipment
-        Interaction with public
-        Respond to urgent calls in adverse and variable weather conditions
-        Will be required to obtain and maintain specific training.
