Active Living Coordinator - Yarmouth Recreation


A partnership between the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth, Yarmouth Recreation is dedicated to providing sport, recreation and leisure activities for all citizens of the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth & Town of Yarmouth.

Applications are now being accepted for the full-time position of Active Living Coordinator.

Under the direction of the Director of Yarmouth Recreation, the Active Living Coordinator will be responsible for responding to the increasing diverse needs and opportunities available to our community surrounding physical activity and health and wellness. Working through the lens of reducing barriers, especially in underserved populations, and promoting fairness, the Active Living Coordinator will create strategies, opportunities and initiatives that focus on increasing daily physical activity levels and unstructured opportunities for movement, along with policy recommendations. A primary focus of this role is to implement, refresh and evaluate the Yarmouth Physical Activity Strategy and to advance and provide leadership on the Make Your Move Yarmouth initiative.

The successful candidate will have a post- secondary degree or diploma in Recreation, Human Kinetics, Community Development, Health Education or a related field and a minimum of three years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The Active Living Coordinator will be skilled in community development work, meeting facilitation, project management, partnership building, have a capacity for understanding data and promising practices, and have excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills.

In addition, the ideal candidate will thrive in a culture of collaboration, demonstrate a professional and positive attitude and embrace the principles of a safe, harassment free workplace.

The Municipality of the District of Yarmouth is looking for an experienced professional to fill the role of Building Official in a growing community. This position is responsible for ensuring that construction projects are in compliance with national, provincial, and municipal building codes, regulations, and by-laws. If you are looking for a new challenge and are interested in a progressive career, working with a dynamic team, come join our growing Department of Development Services.

This full-time position has a salary range of $49,805 – $77,805.

About you:

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and would have current qualification in a recognized construction trade or comparable work-related experience. Previous experience or qualification as a building official would be an asset. Knowledge and understanding of building code and regulations would also be an asset.
