Outdoor Adventure – Field Leader Course
Whether it’s a group walking tour of the town, to the Lighthouse, along the beach to collect sea glass, or in the wilderness to view the stars, this course will help you design and lead a safe, meaningful and memorable experience for visitors to the region. If you have an idea of how to expand your business outdoors and would like to put it into practice, this course is for you!
During this course you will learn:
* How to plan a great trip
* How to identify risks and manage them to promote safety
* How to include others to support your trip
* What to focus on when managing a group
* How debriefs can make your trips even more powerful
Challenges include ensuring physical and emotional safety, managing logistics, solving problems as they arise, and providing meaningful experiences.
Upon completion, you will receive a one-year membership with the Outdoor Council of Canada. To help you design and plan a great trip, the EMERIT Heritage Interpreter online module is included, as well as an HR tool kit to help with developing your business. Further details upon registration.
Course length is 16 hours. Graduates of the Field Leader (Hiking) course are qualified to lead one day trips into class 1 hiking terrain.
Valued at more than $150, this 2-day workshop is sponsored by TIANS and YASTA, to help new and existing businesses develop safe and memorable outdoor experiences for visitors. It is offered at no cost to participants who complete the course!
When & Where
Field Leader 2-day course - Saturday / Sunday
Date: 29 February – 1 March 2020
Location: Rotary Central Hall, Hebron Recreation Centre, Yarmouth 9 am to 4 pm each day.
OPTION: Field Leader + Winter Module - 1 additional day
This certification, an extension of the Field Leader course, offers effective group management techniques for cold environments. Module length is 8 hours, mostly spent outdoors. Graduates of the (Winter) module are qualified to lead one-day trips in low-risk winter environments.

Nancy Lakusta: Nancy is an experienced and qualified instructor with the Outdoor Council of Canada, the Nova Scotia Fishing Guide and Member of the Nova Scotia Guides Association. She is also an SUP Instructor with Paddle Canada, as well as owner and operator of East Coast Paddle Company since 2015.
