During the Regular Council Meeting of April 22nd, 2020, Council for the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth reviewed the municipal Low Income Exemption Policy L-068-09 in light of Covid-19 impacts. Council has extended the deadline for application to September 30th, 2020 for the 2020 taxation year.  Council also suspended the “stacking rule” found in clause 2.6 which states, “The amount of the exemption will be calculated at 50% of the primary residence current year’s tax bill, but only up to a maximum of $200.00, less any Federal or Provincial property tax rebates received.”  This means there is no reduction in the municipal tax exemption made, for qualifying applicants, for the 2020 taxation year even if the applicant has received a Federal or Provincial rebate.
