Amendments to the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations (the Building Code) made pursuant to the Building Code Act, chapter 46, of the Acts of 1989 is anticipated to be prescribed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs to come into effect throughout the Province of Nova Scotia on or about April 1, 2019, with further amendments on or about September 1, 2019.

The proposed amendments will offer additional compliance options to the Nova Scotia Building Code for the construction of tiny homes and recreational cabins (Schedule "A") effective April 1, 2019.  Also included is requirements to add adaptable elements to housing (Schedule "B") within the province with a proposed effective date of September 1, 2019.  The Building Code does not require any retrofits to existing buildings.
